It’s true that I’ve followed politics more deeply than most people for decades. Most people despise politics because it always smacks of hidden agendas and self service. Yet I’ve always believed that it is my duty to know as much as I can about what’s going on in America, because America purports to be self-governing. But we all know that lying politicians frequently do NOT govern in the best interest of their electorate, but often just protect their own self-interest. And they do this by lining their own pockets and the pockets of their allies.

While other people tune out political news thinking it’s all just “party politics,” or ideological conversations that smack of “left vs. right,” or geopolitics (questions of which countries should exist and where should their borders be, or which wars should be fought), I often read up on (and talk about) the historical and ideological context of the situation at hand. And therefore, people mistakenly think that “Kevin loves politics.”

I never thought I’d publicly recommend an R-rated movie, much less a psychological thriller, but here we are. There’s legitimate debate about whether Nefarious deserves its R rating, but I’ll get to that. Before taking some of my family to see it recently, the last time I saw an R-rated movie in the theaters was when I snuck in to see Alien with a friend in high school (oops, did I say that out loud?).

Nefarious is based on a novel by Christian author and podcaster Steve Deace called A Nefarious Plot. I enjoy Steve’s podcast and stream it occasionally. But while I enjoy his political commentary, I appreciate him more now as a fellow believer, writer, and culture warrior. Government debt is a tax

Can Congressional binge-spending go on forever using the alchemy of Keynesian economics and the even-newer magic wand of Modern Monetary Theory? If public debt really stimulates the economy and has “worked” for decades, will it “work” for another 100 years?

If Americans don’t put a stop to the suffocating levels of debt, the system will continue to “work,” meaning the government will get even more bloated, powerful, and tyrannical. We are in an abusive relationship, and we have a moral obligation to end the cycle of abuse for our kids and grandkids.

On the brink of mass hysteria over bank failures, America should consider this a teachable moment. With scary headlines and the prospect of shrinking 401(k)s, there’s no better time to get up to speed on why our fractional reserve banking system is prone to bank runs like that of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.

It’s also urgent to sound the warning that the Federal Reserve may use these bank failures to frighten Americans into adopting a Central Bank Digital Currency, or programmable currency. Just as it’s important to demystify AI by understanding that it’s a math algorithm, it’s important to clarify that a government-run digital currency is also an algorithm. Bank runs have been a part of America’s cultural consciousness since at least the Great Depression. Although that was the largest series of bank runs in history and perhaps the most memorable, it was certainly not the first time that banks failed.
