We are saddling our kids and grandkids with massive debt, but not in the way you think
Let's destroy the fiction that Congress magically spends America into prosperity, shall we?
Reagan once said that Congress spends money like drunken sailors — no offense to drunken sailors, who are at least spending their own money. The conservative response to insane levels of debt spending has always been that we are saddling the next generation with it. That’s true, but few Americans understand how that actually plays out in real life. Come with me and let’s follow the money.
Government debt is a tax
Can Congressional binge-spending go on forever using the alchemy of Keynesian economics and the even-newer magic wand of Modern Monetary Theory? If public debt really stimulates the economy and has “worked” for decades, will it “work” for another 100 years?
If Americans don’t put a stop to the suffocating levels of debt, the system will continue to “work,” meaning the government will get even more bloated, powerful, and tyrannical. We are in an abusive relationship, and we have a moral obligation to end the cycle of abuse for our kids and grandkids.
